The DHZ infantry forces are, by modern standards, primitive. Their equipment is basic and the majority of them are conscripts, albeit with better training than their Soviet Remnant counterparts. They still, ultimately, rely on numbers of quality.
The 2340s army overhaul did not entirely bypass the infantry, though the chances were more doctrinal that material – but it substantially improved the average DHZ trooper’s array of gear and weapons.
The DHZ has moved away from nine-man squads. Instead, medium and heavy infantry platoons are reduced to 6 to 8 man squads, which are better supplied with heavy weapons than previously. None of these weapons are new, but they are now being deployed as standard, rather than only to high-status units as under DHZ procurement’s policy of spending as little as possible.
The DHZ’s rifle of choice remains the QBZ-1195T Assault Rifle, supported by QBB-195 Light Support Weapons. The PF-289 Light Anti-Armour Disposable is now being equipped to all troopers as it was originally intended to be.
Heavy infantry platoons consist of 21 soldiers in three seven-man squads, typically mounted in ZSD-349 HAPCs. Each squad consists of two fire teams. The first is a four-man team consisting of two riflemen, and LSW gunner and a marksman with a QUB-188 Sniper Rifle.
The second fire team of three men is the weapons team, consisting of two riflemen and an LSW gunner by default. When debussing, however, this team can take several different weapons as circumstances require. One of the riflemen – usually the squad’s second-in command, may take a QBS-19 SA Shotgun with QBG-110 Underbarrel Grenade Launcher when the squad is preparing for a close assault. Alternatively, the LSW gunner and one of the riflemen can swap out their weapons for an HJ-512 AGTW or a QSL-187 automatic grenade launcher.
ZSD-349 HIFVs, with only the capacity for a six-man squad, carry heavy support infantry. These squads, three to a platoon, effectively consist of two of the heavy infantry’s three-man weapons teams.
Medium infantry platoons also consist of 21 men. The medium infantry is typically deployed in ZBL-345 IFVs or its immediate but still common predecessor, the ZBL-335 IFV. The three squads are also seven-man but carry less ordinance. Each squad consists of two fire teams. The first with two riflemen and a two-man HJ-512 team; the second comprises two riflemen and a LSE gunner.
Light infantry platoon have mostly remained at nine-man squads, with 27 men to a platoon; however, one of these men is the vehicle commander, as the addition of slightly more weapons cut down on the factory-specification carrying capacity. Light infantry squads are usually equipped with ZBL-348, ZSL-336 or ZSL-345 APCs. Each squad is composed of two fire teams. Composition is similar same as the medium infantry (the vehicle commander being one member of the first fire team), but with the addition of a third rifleman and a marksman with a QUB-188 Sniper Rifle to the second fire team. Some light infantry platoons on smaller vehicles, such as the VN-334 use only an eight-man squads. These platoons do not deplot the vehicle commander as part of the squad, replacing him with a rifleman and omitting the marksman from the second fire team.
Note: The organisation of infantry units play heavily into the composition, in particular what poses and weapons are provided. The DHZ infantry is more complex than usual, due to having rather more APCs and IFVs than is typical – due to commissions – and likewise having various types of platoon (based on the squad organisation of Chinese infantry in 2025). As such, I have provided a force organisation list below for each type of platoon, to aid in the understanding of the intended uses of the various poses and weapons supplied.
