Diana, a wandering Caracal, Druid/Ranger
If you see her at all, it is because she wants you to, or because she does not care. You may notice her ears at first, with the long tufts, or if you are perhaps a little more aware, you will observe her teeth and the consummate grace with which she moves. In the end, it is her eyes that will arrest you. Eyes that belie the youthful visage, eyes that have seen almost everything under the sun and the moon, and that thirst to see it all. Diana is an expert hunter, and tracker, and wise in the ways of nature and magic.
Tales tell that as a kitten, Diana played in the streets of great Rome itself and was taken along by soldiers of the Legio VI Ferrata when they deployed to the desert province the humans call Judea, at the far end of their Empire from France.
On the morning of a crucifixion, she curiously followed the execution detail up the mountain called Golgotha. There in the hot sun, she drank water from a bowl used by distraught women to comfort one of the prisoners and was said to be splashed by the blood of that same victim when he was cut down by the Centurion Longinus. If she was there, over 1700 human years ago, how can she be here? You don’t believe me?
Ask her then. She might tell you that she was caught up in the same curse as those in the execution squad, and that she is bound to walk the earth until Judgement Day. She might tell you that it’s more of a mixed blessing, a chance to see the world in its entirety, to learn and experience things no other cat can, touched by both the human’s Creator and favoured by Bastet as well, pledged to protect all of cat kind. Or, she might just punish you for your impudence. After all, cats will be cats…
